North Atlantic Refining - H1501 Convection Section Replacement

Location:
North Atlantic Refining Ltd., Come-by-Chance, NL
Year:
2006
Description:
SDI Engineering was retained by North Atlantic Refining to provide engineering design, analysis and support for the replacement of the convection section of Heater H1501. Heater H1501 is 80 ft long, 30 ft wide and 80 ft tall (plus the stack). The convection section is approximatly 80 ft long, 7 ft wide and 40 ft tall.

Generally, when heaters are rebuilt, the stack and upper structure is removed. SDI engineering brought forward a unique method of using a monorail system built into the heater structure to transfer the new convection section modules into the heater structure without having to remove the stack and upper structure. In addition, the existing convection section was reinforced and removed as large modules. This method significantly reduced the projected schedule and risk

There were a total of 8 heavy lifts on the project ranging is weight from 60000 lbs to 215000 lbs. SDI Engineering was responsible for the lift analysis and procedures (including the design of two 70 tonne SWL lift beams and rigging.
