Voisey's Bay - Concentrate Receiving Station

Location:
Voisey's Bay, NL
Year:
2004
Description:
The Concentrate Receiving Station (CRS) is a 14.8m x 31m warehouse type building. Roof ridge height is approximately 7.5m. Building construction is a steel frame supported by concrete foundations. The building will be used to offload concentrate material from trucks into a hopper which transfers it to a conver belt. The material then leaves the building on this conveyor belt to be stored in the Concentrate Storage Building. The CRS has large overhead doors in each end to allow the truck to "drive" through the building without having to back up.

SDI performed the engineering design and analysis of this structure in addition to producing the required engineering drawings for fabrication. SDI was also responsible for the steel detailing for the project. Fabrication drawings were completed using a program called Pro-Steel to model the structure in 3D and produce shop drawings from there.

The building was fabricated in modular sections so that the building could be pre assembled in modules at the shop in St. John's or Argentia and shipped to site. Once the modules arrive at site, they are errected and the pieces are fitted together like a jig saw puzzle.
