The Concentrate Storage Building (CSB) is a 63m x 225m A-Frame style warehouse for the storage of the ore concentrate at the Voisey's Bay Nickle deposit. The building is an A-Frame type structure with a ridge height of approximatly 35m. There is a hanger structure that runs through the center of the building which supports a conveyor frame and distribution tripper. Take Up and Head End and Drive Towers are located at each end of the building. Annex buildings on the west end include a splice station, washdown building and the west fan housing. Annex buildings on the east end include the east fan housing.
SDI performed the engineering design and analysis of this structure in addition to producing the required engineering drawings for fabrication. SDI was also responsible for the steel detailing for the project. Over 3000 fabrication drawings were produced in a span of less than four months.
The building was fabricated in modular sections so it could be pre assembled in modules at the shop in Argentia and shipped to site. Once the modules arrive at site, they are errected and the pieces are fitted together like a jig saw puzzle.
